Actualy it was recorded by John Cope for a beautiful album called AV1 by Allinson - Brown (Dave Allinson and Phill Brown), released in 1998. John Cope is of course a pseudonym for Mark Hollis.

I guess the bizarreness comes from Lee Harris (drummer) as this is the only 'song' from the 'Laughing Stock' period where Harris gets credits besides Hollis and Friese-Greene. And it kind of foreshadows Harris's later work with 'O' Rang.
