Hey... i jailbroke my first gen ipod touch and installed winter board....however when i select what i want in winterboard and hit the home button the device resprings but the changes dont take place

please help ... i did this like 6 times and when i hold the home and power button for ten seconds an then let go of power it goes black for one second then white for one second and then it shows the apple then the connect to itunes symbool .... anyone help please!!
