About this user

In September 2003, Catherine studied at the Purcell School where she studied piano with Ilana Davids and held a scholarship under the Government's Music and Dance Scheme. Catherine also studied composition there with Haris Kittos, Dai Fujikura and Jonathan Cole as well as the violin with Mamedova Rashidova. Since 2010, Catherine has been a pupil at the Royal College of Music, London, where she studies piano with Gordon Fergus-Thompson and composition with Alison Kay.
Catherine was awarded the EPTA Cup in the North London Festival, as well as winning the Open Concerto Class. In 2009, she was also a finalist in the '2nd International Franz Liszt Competition for Young Pianists'. She has performed at Steinway Hall in London, Regent Hall (Oxford Street) and also performed as a soloist at the State Apartments at St. James's Palace for the Elgar Foundation, in the presence of HRH The Prince of Wales. In 2009, she performed in the Purcell Room, Southbank Centre as part of the Freddy Morgan Recitals, and has also participated in masterclasses with Vanessa Latarche, Peter Nagy and Dimitri Alexeev.
Catherine has also had a few successes with her compositions. In 2007, the Purcell School Sinfonia performed her 'Orchestral Suite', and her piece for solo piano, 'Anonymous', was Highly Commended at the EPTA Composers Competition in 2009. In 2010, Catherine won the Purcell School Composition Competition, with the premiere of her orchestral piece 'Fragmented Expanse', performed by the Purcell School Symphony Orchestra at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre. In the same year, 'Fragmented Expanse' was also chosen as a winning entry for the BBC Young Composers' Competition 2010, leading to a commission by BBC Inspire and MFY and a Radio 3 broadcast of 'Fragmented Expanse'. In 2011, this commission, 'Alter Ego', was performed in an MFY Prom and 'Fragmented Expanse' was recorded by the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
