I have played this piece for almost 40 years, and Gert brings so much fire and passion to it. Really, it is piece for "young lovers," tumult and abrupt swings of moods.

Jean-Claude Raynaud was (is?) one of the finest organists on this earth. A pity that only a handful of his recordings from the 1960s are available to us.

Great stuff.........kind of inspired at the beginning by Guillou's "Icarus." I once heard Guillou himself improvise on the theme to the TV show "Dallas."

This entire set is the definitive recording of Demessieux's études. Utter perfection and musicality.

@Chuckwsr While I understand your preference...................we aren't comparing here. GW had his Mighty Wurlitzer, Dorsey had his band. Two different sources entirely.

@The2010SnowDay : The combination in question is the 8' Tibia and 8' Kinura, played one octave down at exactly half tempo at 15 IPS. This track was then played back at 7-1/2 IPS to blend with sounds recorded at that speed.

I attended a Cochereau recital once when he played this piece.........at this tempo. Incredible facility and ease, but rather too fast for the ear to follow.

Fantastic playing. Lots of spirit and drive.
