I think the reason they changed some of the lyrics was because in the original there are references to Abbe Lane ( sort of the J-lo of her day in the 50s) & Chichicastenangeo which is in Guatemala & I don't think a lot of people in the 90s would pick up on the references.
Ms. Anderson sung this on the radio on the night of the D-Day invasion in Europe in 1944. It always brings a tear to my eye when I hear it, as it's like she is singing all the brave boys who will not make it back home to heaven as they liberate the world from Hitler
I hadn't seen this movie in years, probably since I was a kid in the early 60s and I saw it with my Mom & Dad at the drive in. I lost both my Mom & Dad last year & all of a sudden when this song came on, I found myself crying. Well done Mary, practically perfect in every way!
