God kept me here for a reason...I refuse not to believe that with all my heart. On July 26, 2006 my life changed drastically. I was 20 years old, a Junior at Texas Woman's University majoring in Marketing, working, involved in a couple of orgs at school with high positions in both, just got my first car and was about to move into my first apartment. I'm originally from St. Louis, MO and my family was having a family reunion that we headed to from Dallas that day. I was behind the wheel when I attempted to pass up an 18-wheeler...I was singing...off key lol...and I could have sworn that truck was coming over on me...maybe not but I swerved either way. I lost control...blacked out...woke up a week later unable to move. I flipped the car. Fortunately everyone else only suffered minor injuries...but I broke and fractured my neck at the C4-C6 levels. I had a halo, feeding tube, trach and ventilator. I was paralyzed from the neck down. One step forward, 10 steps back...

BUT...God loves me...there aint a doubt in my mind. The docs said differently but...now I don't need that vent, I eat on my own and I can move my arms and do so much on my own (including typing this with my left pinky knuckle...when there's a will...). I am back in school full time and do a lot with Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation. I looooove to do motivational speaking...SCI patients or not.

I want people to see that there's more to me than my injury and wheelchair. I'm still your average young woman. I still like to go hang out, watch movies, hit up the mall and concerts. I still cry, smile, love, hurt, laugh, flirt, act silly. I still want to fall in love, get married and have a family. I'M STILL ME!!!!...just a little improved lol
