    Al Jolson Baby Face rehearsal

This was a demonstration done for Larry Parks, who would play Jolson in "Jolson Sings Again". Two takes.

    mse48 mse48 commented:

The closeup sequence is best here. Much superior video compared to Jolie's other screen tests for "Jolson Sings Again" that I've seen on "YouTube.I love the funny faces Jolson uses to "sell " the song. It would have been great if he did a song and dance number like this with Shirley Temple arou...

    Gunsmoke -" The Lost"

    Starring Laurie Prange

I'm surprised Laurie Prange wasn't an A-lister. A very talented character actress, both as a child and as an adult.

Edward Woodward - Moon River -

    mse48 mse48 commented:

Another superb classic romantic song from Edward Woodward and another great post. This seems to have been recorded much later than "They Didn't Believe Me". In that song, he's definitely a tenor, but here he sounds like a light baritone. His singing is like a lost buried treasure. Who knew?! :)

TOM JONES - BABY FACE (LIVE)

GREAT OLDIE FAVOURITE FROM TOM JONES. ALSO RECORDED BY CHUCK BERRY, JULIE ANDREWS, THE KINKS, VICKI CARR, LITTLE RICHARD, BING CROSBY, BOBBY DARIN,...

This number is well-suited to a stylist like Tom Jones. I love that lecherous look he gives the dancers at the end.

I, too, was shocked at how good a voice Judy Holliday had. Definitely unrecognizable from the one you hear in her movies. Sad that she died so young. She had brains, beauty, comic acting skill, and a great singing voice. You'd never know she was an alto from the ditzy characters she played onscre...

    Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney

    From the Judy Garland Show

    mse48 mse48 commented:

Great clip of Mickey and Judy in their forties. They both still looked pretty good here, seemed happy, and mixed well. You can see here that Mickey was a pretty good dancer. It's sad to hear that his family's stealing from him. I remember he declared bankruptcy in the '70s or early '80s. The guy'...

Judy Garland-Mickey Rooney; When You Were Sweet Sixteen: Al Jolson sings

Judy and Mickey. Dancing, laughter, quarrels, exuberant fun.....tender moments. It's all there in their movies together. Love Finds Andy Hardy,...

I have the original Decca album "The Best of Jolson" that includes this song. I've loved it ever since I first heard it when I was seven. Great images of Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney from their "Andy Hardy" days. They mix superbly with the audio. Great post!

Al Jolson - Hooray for Baby And Me

Al Jolson - Hooray for Baby And Me

    mse48 mse48 commented:

Great! Don't know what movie this is from, but the song shows a playful side of Jolson with a little "wiseguy" thrown in. It was hilarious when he singled out the old guy dancing with the young woman and sang "I bet your not dancing with your wife!"

I love the way Jolson used his entire register in numbers like "Anniversary Song" and here. His baritone seems heavier in recordings made at the end of his career. In many ways, it's better than ever, just like the fictional filmmaker said in "Jolson Sings Again." RIP, Al. God knows you weren't p...
