Becoming a pianist, for me, did not come about in the usual way. Yes, I took piano lessons through high school. I was also active in speech and drama clubs, pom poms, and what was to become another life long passion, the game of pool. In college, I majored in accounting, which led the way to a long and successful career in finance at Kraft Foods. But deep inside, I felt a need to listen to my inner voice of intuition and inspiration, to discover and claim my unique gifts and talents. I wanted to surrender to the unfolding that ignites the genius of possibility and creativity.
After my two grown children left home for lives of their own, I found myself free to heed that inner voice. I had time to rekindle my old friendship with the piano - now with more dedication, passion, openness, and love. I surrendered to go Beyond the mechanized drumbeat of life; to listen for the music that lay deep inside, in the very essence of my soul. Now I give myself to the music, and let the beautiful music give back to me.
Amy Jensen lives in Evanston, Illinois and has two children, David and Jennifer. She studies with pianist and master teacher, William Phemister.
