Steelin' Jazz is led by the world's finest jazz steeldrummer from Trinidad called 'Lightning'. Along with 3 other dynamic musicians they blend the classics of jazz and calypso like you never heard it before.
About Me:

Clyde "Lightning" George was born in the same place, around the same time, as the steel pan. Both shared humble beginnings in the hills of Laventille overlooking Port of Spain, the capital city of Trinidad. By the age of 9, Lightning was a regular at the neighborhood panyard. It was here that Bertie Marshall, the inventor of the double tenor pan and leader of Highlanders Steel Orchestra, gave Clyde his nickname "Lightning" because he was so quick to learn the music. Lightning has performed in Chicago, Dallas, California, Trinidad, Amsterdam, Venice, and Athens with many renowned jazz artists including Willie Pickens, Robert Shy, Clark Terry, Ira Sullivan, and Ray Bailey, as well as with popular Trinidadian calypsonians including Edwin "Crazy" Ayoung, Calypso Rose and The Mighty Sparrow. In 1979, he moved to Chicago. He joined in jazz jams around the city and amazed both musicians and audiences with his execution of the steelpan in a jazz setting.

From Chicago jazz jams emerged his quartet, STEELIN JAZZ, with 3 more, very talented Chicago artists. Rob Block performs on both keyboards and guitar. Belfield Small, from the island of Barbados, keeps a steady beat with his bass and Aras Biskis colors the rhythm with his drums. Together they blend the music of the Caribbean with the great classics of American jazz. They have performed at festivals including the International Jazz Fest at Sea, Taste of Chicago, Chicago Jazz Fest, Jazz Artistes on the Greens, Festival of Steel and the International Festival of Life. He has recorded four CDs, numerous radio and television commercials and is featured in the movies, The Boy Who Loved Christmas, The Bertie Marshall Story and the award-winning documentary Calypso Dreams.
