On the tuning, I've always tried to get my top and bottom heads to be as close to the same tension as possible. That way they resonate together rather than fighting with different pitches.

The sing is written in 12/8 so it has a triplet feel. That's going to come from your strum hand and not so much a delay. If you just strum really fast to keep up in 4/4, then you lose the triplet feel. It's hard to explain on here but maybe this will make sense....
