The mission of Millennium Promise is to support the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals to halve extreme poverty in Africa by 2015. Millennium Promise works with impoverished communities in rural villages across sub-Saharan Africa, the Millennium Villages, to invest in sustainable solutions to address the major problems of extreme poverty simultaneously -- hunger, disease, inadequate education, gender inequality, lack of essential infrastructure and absence of income generating opportunities.The Millennium Villages provide a framework for Millennium Promise to incubate new initiatives for the MDGs and to use the lessons learned to affect national and international policy dialogue in the effort to end extreme poverty, hunger and preventable disease.
