Longtime Bluegrass harmonica player, AKA SUGARLIPS, rocks out on new CD getting airplay on Top 40 pop stations in the U.S.Thats right Top 40!

With U.S. Top 40 radio stations such as KISS-FM and MIX 99 playing the single "Poker Face" it's with great excitement that AKA SUGARLIPS is pleased to announce the release of the album "Harmonican Idol" on iTunes and other online retailers. The title pretty well says it all. AKA SUGARLIPS puts a post modern spin on choice pop and rock hits and delivers them as electrifying harmonica lead instrumentals. He takes the harp to places where many never thought it could or should go! Who knew you could make harp music suited for dance clubs, raves and metalheads.

Band members include former long-time Blue Rodeo keyboardist, James Gray, the lead guitarist Bobby Lavigne & drummer Cpt. Killdrums from Canada's top Metallica cover band Misery - and of course Dano (aka Sugarlips) on harps, DJ and vocals. Juno nominated Travis B. Good of The Sadies and Crawford Teasdale of Zeppelinesque fame also play guitar tracks on the CD.

Dano has always had a knack for playing songs seemingly not meant for Harmonica from Pink Floyd Animals to Dvorjak Symphony #9. Hes performed Pink Floyds Astronomy Domine and Set The Controls for the Heart of the Sun live with The Sadies. He also replaced the organist at a Hockey game once between the Rockers and the Toronto Maple Leafs old-timers playing the classic organ bits and many classic rock hooks. His repertoire covers a wide range of genres from the obvious Blues and Country to Bluegrass, Celtic, Cajun, Hip-Hop, Rock, Jazz, Industrial, Classical and Pop.

Basically I just wanted to record some songs that I loved especially if they werent originally intended for harmonica.

Now its time to bring this eclectic mix out for a ride. For the pure fun of it AKA SUGARLIPS performs harp covers of songs by such artists as Lady Gaga, Gnarls Barkley, Pussycat Dolls, Eminem, Linkin Park, The Ventures, Dave Brubeck, Scott Joplin, Henri Mancini and more. A taste of these songs is available on his new CD Harmonican Idol.

"When the Poker Face Track started getting commercial radio airplay in the U.S. without any promotion of any kind I thought people might actually enjoy this stuff as much as I enjoyed making it."

Typical feedback after a show has been Wow! Weve never heard anything like that before! We loved it.

Background:
New Media Pioneer Dano (aka Sugarlips) is an award-winning artist whos been honoured twice at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art for his work as a New Media producer. Hes also a recent Canadian New Media Awards winner and won numerous international digital media awards since 1995.

But thats only the half of it! To many Dano is recognized for his harmonica playing with his long time band of 20 years Jughead, best known for their song Hockey Song that went Gold in 1996. Jughead is also known for its twisted Bluegrass versions of punk & heavy metal songs as well as delivering kick ass bluegrass originals and country classics. The only band to open up a show for the Godfather of Bluegrass Bill Monroe, with a Motorhead songand Bill loved it! Lemme from Motorhead once said on a BBC interview Jugheads cover of Ace of Spades is the only cover version I really like.

Dano has performed with Jughead, Stratochief, Dick Duck & the Dorks, The Sadies, Greg Keelor, Sarah Harmer, Flowers of Hell, Bob Snider, Buddy Guy, The Bad Livers, Quarteto Gelato, Oliver Shroer, Swamparella, The Fault Line, The Loyal Blues band, The Hen House Ramblers, Ray Condo, DeMos, The Texstyles and more...

Hes toured Canada with Jughead from coast to coast playing festivals such as the Winnipeg Folk Festival, the Vancouver Folk Festival, Hillside Festival, Festival By The Sea, Kumbaya and Lolapalooza as well doing numerous TV appearances.
