Love early EastEnders, no high drama or sensationalism. Just ordinary people living ordinary lives, much like Corrie at the time. You didn't need one drama/tragedy/affair/death after the other to keep viewers hooked and I don't think you still do. EastEnders is a shadow of what it once was.

I can't believe Michelle made reference to Coronation Street! Very rare acknowledgment of another soap!

EastEnders was wonderful back then, so much more down to earth.

With her departure, there are very few people left in the show of her acting calibre.

Pauline WAS EastEnders, her departure left a huge void in the show which can't be filled as she was the heart of the programme. RIP Wendy.

She was just amazing, wonderful. Today's politicians are so vacuous, she dwarfs them all and her absence from today's politics is sorely missed.

They wouldn't make a programme like this now - sure you get documentaries on the Street but not big studio productions like this. Probably too expensive.

This is lovely, all the neighbours rallying round Hilda. Sadly we have since seen the funerals of Ivy, Alf, Vera, Mike, Jack and soon Betty. That's why I love this show, you really care about the characters for years and years and when they finally go, you feel as though you have lost an old friend.

Such an iconic character, played with such pathos. Many actresses since have tried to fill her battleaxe shoes, but none could do it justice quite like Violet Carson.

A wonderful show. Always has been, always will be.

Julie Goodyear hadn't lost any of the sparkle as Bet, and her brief return was great. I hope she returns for Betty's funeral.

Strange as this may sound, for me this is a classic Corrie clip, particularly as it features Betty in one of her final scenes.

Brilliant! EastEnders could never do a scene like this and if they did it would be cringeworthy. Rita, Norris, Deirdre and Steve (and occasionally Emily) provide the best moments of comedy. They must never leave.

The Emmerdale Annie returned to was very different to the one she left. I wonder if she will ever appear again as actress Sheila Mercier is still going strong.

A real feel good episode is this one, with so many beloved characters together.

The decision to kill off Jill in the 2001 version was complete madness. The show deserved to fail after that.
