I just went on eBay and found a 1982 Porsche 944 Lux in red with a "buy it now" price tag of $1254.

Given the choice I'd rather save $1046 and have a real Porsche (even though it's old) then a Blackberry smartphone with a Porsche logo on it anyday!

Can you operate the arm manually or will doing that damage the mechanism?

@BadEditPro Thanks, as a turntable novice I'm not spending any more money than I need to on gear that I can't set up properly, I'm not going to fall into the audiophile pit of despair.
