Mona Roukachi is a talented vocalist from Sweden, with origins from Morocco.
She was born and raised in Umea, a city in Northern Sweden. From a very early age, Mona found her passion for singing & song writing. Throughout childhood into her teenage years, Mona evolved her style, rhythms and lyrics by incorporating music elements of her African roots. Mona started to collaborate with producer Henrik Berhane in 2004 and composed several inspirational songs.
At the age of 19, Mona participated in a Moroccan talent show called "Studio 2M" in Summer of 2005. As a contestant, Mona seized this great opportunity to showcase her voice and personality before a large Public TV audience. Her first performance was very successful, which catapulted her into the final of the competition. In the Finals Round of "Studio 2M", Mona rocked the stage with her powerful voice while performing "Hot Stuff" by Donna Summer. She won the Moroccan Publics vote and took the first price in Western Category.
Participating in the show opened a lot of doors for Mona to share her music throughout Europe. She released her first single in December 2005 "Music" in Morocco and recorded her first video clip in Egypt a short period after that. The song was produced by the Moroccan artist Elam Jay. At the same time, Mona received lots of attention in Sweden & Europe while working on her first album "I Believe" in 2005/2006 with her producer Henrik Berhane. On the 2006 Final of "Studio 2M", Mona was the headline act of the show and released her second single "I Do I Do" with a new music video. She also presented the 1st place award to the winner of the show.
She also started to engage into different charity projects, and together with the Swedish winner of Idols 2004 and the band "The Beyond" they made a concert collecting money for SIDA that brought them over 100 000 SEK in November 2006
In February 2007, Mona moved to Oslo, Norway to continue working on her album with Henrik Berhane. She transitioned her music from up-tempo R&B/Dance to a more Soul Acoustic, Arabic/African sound. Also in 2007, Mona collaborated with German Producer Zouhair Qorchi merging his Hip-Hop R&B/Midi style with Mona's soulful voice. She was the representative Female Act of Occidental Music in 12 centuries women music festival in city Fes, Morocco together with different representing legends of oriental music from Morocco. Mona travelled to Belgium/Brussels in December 2007 to record a song with one of the Arab world's most popular "Ray" singers, Cheb Rayan. The song was released in 2009 and became huge Summer Hit titled "Di´s moi je t´aime" which was released in a compilation album titled "Bled Forever" in South Europe, Belgium, France, Italy, and North Africa.
In October 2008, with a new look and revamped image, Mona released "My Feelings" with good success. She performed her single at the Gala of SIDA in November 2008 with 2M
Summer 2009 was the big comeback year for Mona and she released her latest single "Uno Dos Tres" featuring a Moroccan Rapper named Would Cha3b. The hit song immediately topped the charts in Morocco. Mona returned back to the show "Studio 2m" and performed "Uno Dos Tres" on stage with Would Cha3b for the semi final 2009.
She also performed in Oslo, Norway at the 2009 World Music Festival. She was featured with Michy Mano (Film-maker & Composer) & Bugge Wesseltoft (Jazz composer who has worked with Stevie Wonder & Norah Jones). Mona & Michy made the soundtrack of a movie called "Wlidat Dar Baida" (The children of Casablanca). The movie was directed by Abdelkrim Derkaoui and was released in the end of 2009. Her next single after Uno Dos Tres was "Got To Be Ready" featuring another Moroccan Legendary rapper named Masta Flow.
2 December of 2010 Mona came with her first official single of her album called "Mama"
An acoustic song that was written and composed by herself and Caldom Thomas, a songwriter from Sweden. She also recorded a music video for this single that will be released very soon.
Currently, Mona returned to her family in Sweden and keeps travelling between Norway and Morocco. She has just finished her recording for her album that has been a project of over 4 years collaborate with Henrik Berhane called "I Believe"
