Weird might have to do with the unconventional use of keyboard in some tunes (like Dina's Mambo). This tune was conventional and very good.

They did bring back doo wop. It is called “The Sing-off” on NBC. It has old-style doo wop and modernized acapella, which sounds great. When you hear it you realize that musical instruments are not always needed.
