Video response to http://www.youtub... Posting it here since he didn't allow video responses on that video. Not that what Dean says is untrue just pointing out this would have been a perfectly valid way to go about this technique as well if not more effectively. I think the phrase "Give them just enough rope to hang themselves." applies perfectly in this situation. A few clarification points on the original video from Christa Jacobson: /watch?v=d64osofIB5c #1 - The spears by the pillow is correct, if you watch the video at 2:33 I place a picture and clearly say that this is correct, the spear does not go on the side with the swords it goes by the pillow howver;..at 2:37 I state that if you place it by the feet that this can be a henka of the technique, so I decided to show a way to use this henka, as I think it is common sense to grab the spear above your head and stick the person that is right be side you.
#2 - I see where you are coming from with the wakizashi,..however all of the wakizashi that we have here are live blades, so I used the iaito that we have to demonstrate that way no one was hurt in the shooting of the video.
Since you posted the video I thought that I would give you the answers to your questions so that you know in case someone posted something under your video.
Thanks for the post, you made great points, not for sure why or how he can come up with anything to say (1) we stated where it came from (2) we clearly stated what the translation is (3) we even said that this was our "understanding" with the swords being placed the way that they were (4) I clearly stated that the spear by the feet is a variation based on the room that I was in, and I showed how you can apply this "henka" or variation.
