It looks like I'm not the only one who collects these players. Currently I have 2 Newcombs, 4 Califones, and 2 Audiotronics. I'm probably the happiest with the Califone Listening Corner I own with the 12-inch speaker. The tube amp on that one really sings.

Any chance this is a Canadian pressing? I tend to seek out Canadian pressings of these Columbia 45s, as they are pressed on vinyl.

The yellow label promotional copies of this one are kind of tough to find. Perhaps the song just didn't that much promotion...it just of sold itself.

@fatcatbuzz All of the original Creedence singles from the 60s were released in mono, though some promotional copies exist in stereo too. I find myself preferring the mono mixes of these songs myself...they jump off the record better.

It looks like you have both the styrene pressing (with the painted label) and the vinyl pressing. The styrene copies can sound really great, if they haven't been played too hard.

Dynaflex lives another day.

What a contrast. On one hand you have a classy fan, who doesn't think of himself and gives the ball away...despite the fact that ball could have made him rich. On the other hand, you have a selfish baseball player who gave the fan nothing in return and could hardly muster a weak smile when posing...

Those late 20s and early 30s Victor recordings were surprisingly high in fidelity...nice full rich recordings!

A nice condition copy is probably in the $10-$20 range. A mint copy would likely get more.

What a spectacular recordings. As much as I listen to these 30s sides from Bob Wills, I never get tired of them. Nobody quite managed to duplicate this magic ever again.

I actually prefer the single edit, making it a great sub-3:00 minute rock song. The album version is a bit too self-indulgent with the long solo-ing.

One of the few Elvis songs released on 78 in the UK, but not in the USA. (Paralyzed and When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold being at least two other examples.)

The neat thing is that you can SEE the guitar solo in the grooves...where the surface of the shellac isn't quite as reflective.

The biggest problem with these old acoustic phonographs is that they completely trashed the records after a couple of plays. The heavy tone arm and steel needles really rip into the grooves. Subsequent plays will show increasing distortion from damaged grooves.

Gives these guys some credit. This may be the only rendition of "Comfortably Numb" that is actually entertaining.

I don't like Joey's delivery on this performance...he purposely is coming in late on many of the vocal lines, a little gimmick that singers do that is a pet peeve of mine. If he would just deliver the lines on time, it would sound so much better (despite his voice being a little ragged).
