Did Harris leave? That explains a lot. The show was good for the first couple of years and then it pretty much was garbage towards the end as the plots become more and more silly and the show ridiculous.

You have to understand as well that commercials in those days were NEVER funny. It was just not done...selling your product was seroius business. One of the reasons that this became so popular was that it was basically the first "funny" commercial.
