MEANINGLESSNESS MATTERS

CLEAR EYES

448 views 3 years ago
This video is about applying moderation to our drives and desires and a warning to maintain a balance so you don't get swallowed by not just your own hedonistic actions or inactions but that you don't get sucked into the mental abyss in our search for the answers to the biggest questions and how the duality of that beast can swallow us up. It has been proven to be the cure and the disease at the same time.

However most of us are not fortunate enough to come equipped with the ability to apply those brakes when necessary. I myself have walked down the path of excess over indulging in all that suited me and crossed my path. Sometimes dealing with life in an altogether aggressive and terrifying manner. So the ideas of how to live seem reasonable and attainable on paper but applying them to ones life seems to be the trick.

Michel Onfray on Hedonism: "as an introspective attitude to life based on taking pleasure yourself and pleasuring others, without harming yourself or anyone else."

The concept of "God" invented as a counter-concept of
life — everything harmful, poisonous, slanderous, the whole hostility unto death against life synthesized in this concept in a gruesome unity! The concept of the "beyond," the "true world" invented in order to devaluate the only world there is — in order to retain no goal, no reason, no task for our earthly reality! The concept of the "soul," the "spirit," finally even "immortal soul," invented in order to despise the body, to make it sick — "holy"; to oppose with a ghastly levity everything that deserves to be taken seriously in life, the questions of nourishment, abode, spir-
itual diet, treatment of the sick, cleanliness, and weather! In place of health, the "salvation of the soul" — that is, a folie circulaire [manic-depressive insanity] between penitential convulsions and hysteria about redemption! The concept of "sin" invented along with the torture instrument that belongs with it, the concept of "free will," in order to confuse the instincts, to make mistrust of the instincts second nature!

— Nietzsche, Ecce Homo

Both are excerpts from Michel Onfray's 'In Defense of Atheism" .... I just began reading it so far it exemplifies my belief that living free of dogmas and viewing life and the universe around us with clear eyes is not just liberating and exhilarating but rational and sane considering we are constantly bombarded with "high-toned mumbo jumbo" & fanciful notions of "creation" daily.

It's as if we we are in a constant struggle for reason and sanity to be the prevailing methods of discovery.
Let the objective truths unfold as time goes on.
Moving forward, never straight, with clear eyes.
