The Serpent in the Sword: Forging a Viking-age Sword (Audio Remix)

63,152 views 1 year ago
The Serpent in the Sword is a paper by Lee A Jones studying early medieval pattern-welded swords. This video shows how to create a pattern-welded sword that actually has a serpent at its core. The sword making process while using modern tools is similar to the ones employed by anglo-saxon or viking-age smiths.

This is the same version as the original video but with an improved audio mix. As Youtube does not allow videos to be replaced, I had to upload the video again.

Forge Diaries Play

Forge diaries are rough and unpolished videos that allow me to post more frequent updates of some of the work I do at the forge. Same as the videos, the work at the forge is unpolished, too. You will see frequent failures, experiments and the occasional tips and tricks.

Forging a Viking-Age Sword Play

A series of videos that show the creation of a viking-age pattern-welded sword from beginning to end. It shows the forge-welding of a multi-layer billet, the twisting and the final assembly of fives bars into a sword. After the sword has been forge welded, the edge bevels are forged in. Instead of forging the fuller, one of the videos shows how to grind it.
