I am a bit worried. I should be 20 pounds heavier with winter comin on. Times are hard and this may be the year that I visit the big mountain range in the sky.
About Me:

I just want to say thank you to those who have generously made a donation to the Mike Barter video series. [ http://web.me.com/mountaing... ] It is with your help that I can get out there on an almost daily basis. I really think that this is the way that many of us should look at the exchange of services. I have donated to various services myself. One being a kid who developed HandBrake a DVD ripping software and another to Justine Sandercoe [ http://www.justinguitar.com/ ] who offers excellent guitar lessons on-line. I have also learnt most of what I know about kite skiing off of youtube. I think this is a great method of sharing expertise. I know that not everyone can afford to donate but those who do keep the material coming for those who cannot afford it.
If you wish to help out please go to my website at http://mountainguide.com
Thanks
The Mike

Hey Mike, let me just say first of that your video's are excellent, i'm only a novice climber but your video's have given me the confidence to climb higher with more safety. its pretty much safe to say that your like Chuck Norris to me. Living in New Zealand we have some of he most beautiful places in the world to climb, however i do often have a problem with my ropes getting filthy, would it be possible for you to shed some light on rope bag's,drop bags that you can drop before rapelling and the correct way to use them. Thanks Andrew.

Just thought I should say, after seeing the comment on your t-slot ice axe vid that I saw a guy called Ray Mears do a retrievable anchor with some kind of rope trick on his t.v. series, but it's not very clear what he did that made it work.(used two axes) hope you can shed some light!

Hey Mike, any chance of something on retrievable ice axe anchors? Found some info in books but would appreciate seeing it done! Thanks........

Hey thanks for writin back,.. I really want to make some really cool videos that would-be survivalists will find usefull. And not to worry about educating people. I've trained soldiers in the past and would love to instruct those who have a genuine interest in the wilderness. I've been deeply instructed with survival tech. and I cant wait to make my videos!! However I am definatly not used to trying to teach a subject fully with only 10 minutes to work with ,.. I think I might have to do what alot of people do and make more than one part (pt 1 & pt 2)) Anyways ,.. I got a few beers to drink with my brother so I'll talk to ya soon,.. write back anytime and tell me about your day to day . Take care!!

If you are looking to upload and create an informative channel you really have to know and be passionate about your subject. The viewers will know if your a hack in no time flat.
My main camera is a HVR200 Panasonic. I shoot in HD 720p 30 f/m and upload raw file to youtube. Usually about a gig per 10 minute video. Not sure if everybody can upload files that size or not. Their compression is very good. The shooting and creating for me has been a slow learning process. With mountaineering the videos can and most likely will go on forever. Might as well apply for partnership with google and make a few sheckles while your at it. Be sure that your doing it cause you want to educate or entertain, hopefully both, and the rest will fall into line.

Hey mike,.. thanks for adding me as a friend! Im still likin' the vids! Got any " words of wisdom" for someone about to upload his first couple videos on youtube? Im about to put a few up showing alot of survival tech. I've about 15 to complete the filming and I have three decent cameras. How'd you get your videos to look so cool? Computer software? Could you let me in on your secrets? I could really use them,.. I want to make a really cool professional video that people will really enjoy. I've gotta run ,.. sorry I didnt put this in a letter!!!!

You are a legend buddy. The funniest thing I have ever heard you say, you swing that axe like a pussy.

These videos are terrific! You have pretty much everything. But I have been searching for information on how to build an anchor for a top rope system off of a tree (or trees) and can't find any good ones. Maybe you could enlighten me?
