About this user

My name is Stefano Baraldi,
I was born in 1975 and got a MSc degree in Computer Science in Bologna, and a PhD in Interactive Engineering in Florence, Italy.
From 1997 to 2000 i started my own computer games company and later worked as a consultant and software architect for online groupware applications.
My main interest has always been in systems to enhance knowledge building and sharing when working face-to-face, and found current interfaces and applications to be ill-suited for these tasks.
In 2004 i did my master's thesis on the wikiWall project, a prototype system for building concept maps using gestures on a tabletop, at the MICC (Media Integration and Communication Center) in Florence.
In 2005 i took a research associate position at the MICC and later started a PhD which was finished in 2009.

I've been working in various companies as a software architect, developer and designer of interactive products such as early multi-touch tables and surfaces.

At the moment i am researching and developing advanced solutions in the field of HCI, tabletop computing, interactive knowledge building but also future retail space.

My research is focused on:
- multi-touch devices, both hardware and software, finding common guidelines for multi-touch interaction actions.

- visualization of knowledge elements, suitable for being displayed on multi-user tabletops.

- integration of face-to-face and distributed collaboration, focusing on learning environments.
