Theory of evolution is a FACT
Uneducated people seem to have trouble understanding what scientific theory is.
Word "theory" comes from the ancient Greek word "theoros"="spectator" (from "thea"="a view" + "horan"="to see").
Scientific theory is:
1) a well substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world based on a body of facts that have been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experiment;
2) an organized system of accepted knowledge that applies in a variety of circumstances to explain a specific set of phenomena.
Now, the Greek word "theoria", derived from the same word "theoros", means "speculation, consideration, contemplation". But in scientific vocabulary there is another word for this - "hypothesis".
Hypothesis is a tentative explanation for an observation, phenomenon, or scientific problem that can be tested by further investigation.
Only if and when the hypothesis is tested and proven as correct, does it become a scientific theory.
You know, a theory, as opposed to practice.
In school you learn theory, so you can apply it in practice.
Simple.
But if some layman happens to have a "theory" of his own, for example, why birds fly or why are we here, it's not to be confused with a scientific theory. ;)
