Acoustic original. Had this song around for years with different lyrics. I thought they were too depressing so I rewrote them. I based the lyrics on a story I think I heard somewhere about a wealthy lady in the Gilded Age who in her declining years still thought she was hosting galas at her mansion and held conversations with imaginary guests. I might've mixed up the facts or maybe I dreamed up the whole thing, but I thought it made a good story for a song.
Putting on her makeup and her dress
Making herself ready for her guests
Servants setting dinner plates
A fire in the fireplace
The lady and her mansion at their best
