I'm Michelle ( my previous channel was - michelledornier - ), originally from San Francisco but currently living in Amsterdam to attend college. I've always wanted to experience living abroad for a couple of years and I'm blessed I have been given the opportunity to do so.

I take my classes in Dutch instead of English and if there are Dutch speaking people visiting my channel who want to leave a comment please do it in Dutch.

Amsterdam is nice, I like its history, canals, buildings and their lenient liberal policies, it's actually like SF.

On the issues:

2nd amendment - pro

Legalizing marijuana - pro

Abortion - not after the 2nd month

Euthanasia - pro if determined by a medical expert that suffering of the patient is unbearable and disease incurable.

Same sex marriage - pro ( must be on the ballot again to overrule prop 8 )

In this country there is no other law on the books that denies rights to some that are available to others. A law banning same sex marriage is discriminatory. It does not matter what your beliefs are, what your values are. It is simply a fact that denying rights to one group is discrimination and an infringement on civil liberties.

This is why I feel it is the duty of the court to review passages of any measure. This oversight is not undermining the rule of law; it is ensuring that we are not oppressing the minority.

A great American hit the nail on the head:

" A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine. All, too, will bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will to be rightful must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal law must protect, and to violate would be oppression."

That is why we have checks and balances; that is why we have a Constitution. It is to protect the rights of minorities and to give fair and equal opportunities for each and every tax paying American. A popular vote should never be used to rewrite a state constitution for the sole purpose of stripping away the rights from an unpopular minority group. That, my friends, is un-American.
