Michael Pluznick is a life long lover of music, ethnic culture and percussion. He has been studying, performing and teaching drumming and percussion from the African diaspora since 1976.

He has traveled around the world several times and lived and studied in West Africa, Brasil, Puerto Rico, India and Cuba.

He has produced his own award winning CD's on several labels and also produced a series of CD's from Mali West Africa which are available at earthcds.com.

The Mali video footage you see here in some of the videos are from the recording sessions, classes and events he attended in Mali. All of the other footage is from his personal travels and experiences that he was directly involved with.

He has also been recorording with a variety of musicians with great pleasure and success for over 25 years. He has collaborated with Todd Rundgren, Jerry Garcia and Mickey Hart ( both of The Grateful Dead),Clarence Clemmons (Bruce Springsteen), Raul Rico (Santana) and Jim Chappell, among others.

He was one of three premier soloists in Bolakada Condes Les Percusions Melenke West African percussion ensemble and now performs in Barababja and Blend in Hawaii. As well as several other groups in Asia.

All of the videos here are from Michael's private collection and were taken by Michael (or his camera when he is playing) in his various classes, trips abroad, gigs, cermonies, etc., and are offered here to help expose the musicians to a wider audience then they normaly would have and in the spirit of friendship and sharing for educational purposes.

Barabajaba is a Hawaii based "world" drum ensemble with over 80 years combined drumming, performing teaching and recording expierience. Our music ranges from West african , Afro Cuban, Afro Haitian to Indian fusions of music and drumming style. We have not only studied extensively in the countries we play the music from but also have gone to western music schools such as Berklee.

We offer our unique music to one and all in the spirit of peace and sharing. You can click on the link here below to listen to free samples or buy our new album as well!
