My name is Michael Lukers. I am lucky to be married to my beautiful high school sweetheart, Teri Lukers. I have two exceptional children, Stephanie and Zachary. I love spending time with them (when they're not busy with their friends, of course), whether it is just hanging out at the house or going off and doing anything. We have been going to alot of concerts together lately, playing tennis and having my wife kick my ass in racketball! Their constant support of my music over the years has really given me the positive outlook to practice, rehearse, and perform on whatever instrument I seem to have chosen at the moment.
I knew I wanted to play drums since I was ten years old and my Nana gave me an old beat up Ludwig tom. It had no bottom head and a gold oyster pearl finish. I have performed jazz, orchestral, marching and intricate progressive metal music since I started. Some of my inspirations come from great artists such as Eric Carr, Snowy Shaw, Vik Foxx, Michael Foster, Shannon Larkin and Mark Zonder, to "namedrop" just a few. After a good family friend (Troy Robinson) took me to see Eric Carr in 1984, (at the Pensacola, FL Civic Center) I was hooked on KISS and Eric's playing (RIP). I have the ability to push the music while also letting it "breathe". I'd like to think my bands (Fox, Legacey, Hero, Hyde, Foreseen, Orphan Wells, Imperial Shreds, Transient Broadcast, Below The Stitch, Model Citizen, Foreseen [again...NEW album coming soon], Lugosi) have something different to offer, musically and emotionally. We always have live shows with alot of energy, along with songs you won't be able to get out of your head after you hear them. I like being in the studio, but LOVE performing live music. I think they are both a necessity for me to keep sane in the music business.
I plays drums, but also sing, engineer and produce for these bands. I try to offer different sounds to be musically and emotionally hip in today's music scene and push the envelope. My current kit is definitely designed for a visual effect. It is very functional (for me) as well. I sit at about 16" off the floor to the top of my throne. Most people cannot understand this, as it goes against everything instructors say about proper seating height for your legs to be positioned comfortably. It just goes to show that not everything works for everyone the same way. Strive to be an individual. Change the position of at least one thing on your kit every 3 months and it will open up your playing in different ways than you can imagine.
