About Me:

Hi Everyone, Welcome to my YouTube profile.

My name is Michael Donegan and I live in County Armagh in the nort of Ireland.

If you have come here it is likely because you share my interest in the music and the life of the late singer and songwriter John Denver. JD, as he was widely known, was born in Roswell, New Mexico, on 31 December 1943 and he died in a flying accident in Monterey Bay, California, on 12 October 1997, just short of his 54th birthday.

John Denver was one of the most successful recording artists in the history of popular music, rising to the heights of stardom in the 1970s, and though his star had waned somewhat in the 1980s he continued to pull in huge crowds at concerts the world over.

I have been a fan of JD since the early 1970s and, sad to say, I only managed to make it to one of his Irish performances. That was in 1977 when he performed at two magical concerts in Dublin. It was a wonderful joyous performance and a memory that I cherish to this day.

He was an absolutely amazing performer who left us way too soon. We will not see his like again.

My background photo shows John singing before an audience of some 40,000 young people in Cork City at the annual open-air Siamsa Cois Laoi concert in 1986. I was not there but I cherish to this day the VHS copy I made of the RTE broadcast.

I have uploaded a number of John Denver videos and slideshows (480 at the last count) and I hope that you enjoy them. I try to ensure that I am not uploading clips that are on YouTube already, but a few have slipped through. Sorry about that!

Among my uploaded videos you will find long lost live performances by JD in Assisi, Italy (1986) and Pittsburgh (1993), several of his US TV appearances on The Tonight Show, as well as clips from five episodes of the BBC's 'John Denver Show' of 1973. I have also uploaded songs from John's 1986 concert in Cork.

My uploads include slideshows showcasing audio of three of John Denver's final performances before his tragic death in October 1997. I apologise for the uneven quality of some of my photographs.

The first is an entire concert performed at the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford, Connecticut, on 1 August 1997. The sound quality is stunning!

The second concert was recorded in Austin, Texas on 4 October 1997, just eight days before John's tragic death. It was his second from last show ever! This concert upload ends with one of the few known recordings of 'Yellowstone, Coming Home'.
I have also uploaded a slideshow featuring a concert from the Congress Building, in The Hague, dating from 30 March 1997.

If you like my videos please don't forget to leave a comment or to rate them. That would be much appreciated.

My favourite John Denver song has long been Poems, Prayers and Promises. It is a remarkable song written when JD was still a young man!

JD's first live public performance of 'Poems, Prayers and Promises. was likely on 9 March 1971, on the Skip Weshner radio show in Los Angeles, when he was just 28 years old!

Country:
Ireland
Interests:
My primary musical interest has been John Denver for many many years, though I also like Celine Dion, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel and the late Dan Fogelberg and Johnny Cash. Closer to home I listen to Irish artists like The Dubliners, Mary Black, Christy Moore, and the late Luke Kelly. I love listening to all of the above on my iPod.
Music:
Anything at all by John Denver (my favourite JD song among many is Poems, Prayers and Promises) - but also Johnny Cash and Bruce Springsteen and Irish folk music, especially the legendary Luke Kelly.

This is a very nice tribute to the Late John Denver. John's music has meant a lot to me over the years it has seen me through some really rough times. I bought my first vynal record album when I was nine years old and it was John Denver's Back Home Again.

Michael, Did you get that long lettered song I typed out? C.Pride sings it but I don't know the name of it..just most of the words. Just wondered if you got it last week or so. I don't know the other fellows name that posts a lot of Charleys songs, at least I can't spell it's..TS....something.If you got the letter and don't know where to find the song, I'd like to send it to him and see if he knows. As I said in my msg. I can't recall the name of the song. Thank you. Beehive

Thanks for posting John Denver at Valley Forge Music Fair. His version of "Marvelous Little Toy" is the only version I've ever liked. Maybe it's because John was a true kid at heart. He is still sorely missed.

I listened to John for 3 hours tonight. I had made a CD 4-5 years ago and forgot about it. Johnny Mcevoy was on it too so that was nice

His music continues to touch my heart & soul and I'm so thankful for the technology that allows me to watch his concerts and hear his voice.
