I remember this from 1968, then loved the version from the Blues Brothers movie...but replaying the original, it's even better at this tempo. Also, the instrumentation is stronger here than the movie version. Love it!!

McGuffey Lane has NOTHING to do with the McGuffey Readers. The group was named for a street in Athens, which has about as much to do with a reading book as the Beatles had to do with Volkswagen "bugs." Get a clue! I was a high school friend of Bob McNelley, and saw them perform in Fort Collins...

This is one of the very best versions of this song ever put on video. The fact that Carl sang it on the original album is coincidental. He did a good job, but Brian was mean to sing this one.
