About this user
Me vs. You is not punk, hardcore, or metal. It is all of this and none of it, simultaneously. As trends come and go, Me vs. You choose a simple approach to writing their music: 'We write the kind of songs that we wanna hear!" The resulting sound is a fresh blend of modern alternative genres, with influences such as Thrice, Death by Stereo, Atreyu and Killswitch Engage.
Formed in November 2005, Me vs. You is comprised of five Sydney boys, Raj Wakeling (Vocals), Ned Jankovic (Guitars), Chris Smithers (Guitars), Scott Riley (Bass) and Giovanni Rettura (Drums). The band has a rich history of live performance, featuring ex-members of Dropjive and August Falling. Me vs. You embodies the kind of music these guys have always wanted to play, but never had the chance to.
The debut EP, A Novice With a Nailbomb was written and recorded on a steady diet of Ninja Turtles video games, Will Farrell DVDs, and BBQ pork buns. The result is five heavy anthems that demand your attention from start to finish, and bring a positive attitude to a scene flooded with self pity and angst.
The boys would never claim to be redefining the genre, but instead pay homage to the music they love through a thoughtful pastiche of various modern styles. With an emphasis on emotive lyrics and strong melodies, Me vs. You is your new favourite mix tape.
The launch show takes place on the 5th of May at the Lair in Sydney. Supported by King Mungi, Red Distress, and Envy Parade, this night is set to go off. Pre-sale tickets are $15, and entitle the bearer to a free copy of the new EP when they present it at the door!
