Has anyone seen the brand new Thames ident. For those that don't know Thames is a production brand again in it's in own right as Talkback Thames has been split. Sadly there's no skyline ident, in fact it's a rather sad, vague almost powerpoint graphic but at least Thames is back of sorts. Isn'...

Lovely stuff, Granada was so great as it got over local differences we all seemed like Granadaland.

Thames were great but I suspect they were of their time. Had they continued post 1993 with the financial constraints and increased competition they would have probably ended up like Granada.

This wasn't broadcast in Granada but it should have been!

It's strange how things come around. Asda had a large purpose built store in the late 70's in my town but closed it several years later in favour of an out of town model. Now they have built a brand new larger store only some 100 metres from the original!

A lot is mentioned these days of the loss of regional idents and presentation but it's interesting that from some point in 1989 Thames barely mentioned their own name in continuity, merely referring to ITV. Maybe they knew the way things were heading, of course they dropped all the ITV nonsense...

BSB also used traditional dishes too because eventually the original planned squarial supplier couldn't provide them with a working consumer product so they had to source far, far more expensive ones from Japan causing more delays which didn't help BSB. It wasn't the squarial that provided the ...

No wonder BSB was a disaster.

Great mock, ATV was good fun. However it actually didn't start broadcasting in The Midlands until 1956.

Tom Edwards must have dojne some weekend continuity shifts for ATV when Thames was off air, I never knew that!

PBS UK is a joint commercial venture with a media company. It is a pay channel and carries advertising much like BBC America. Both are very different to the home versions but they help the finances to keep PBS and BBC commercial free for their home viewers, thankfully!

Thankfully this show is long canned in the UK, it ended up as an afternoon show on ITV. It was (of course) never broadcast by the BBC. As i'm sure everyone knows it was briefly revived by Thames on ITV on the back of the presenter winning of I'm A Celebrity but it was very poor..

Isn't it interesting that just an ident broadcast in it's very first seconds of life could sum up a company? Overblown, pretentious marketeers than didn't have a bloody clue how in broadcasting. Fair play to Carlton, they played the ITV business game better than anyone before it but my word the...

From 1 January 2012 the Thames brand returns, it is being split from Talkback.. I wonder what the new ident will be?

ITV1 Wales, HTV news. Very confusing.

@cwilliams1976 We all know that but TVS and Southern had nothing to do with eachother, TVS merely bought many of their assets. There would never have been any need for TVS to 'present' a Southern programme like Central were required to present ATV programmes.

From reading a bit about Granada's history it appears the lack of animated idents, or perhaps some might say dull branding, was highly deliberate. The Bernsteins (who founded the company) never wanted the station to be seen as showy and preferred the programmes to do the talking. Strangely thou...

It is a fabulous ident but it sums up Carlton Television really. All branding and image but very, very poor broadcasters. I guess they were always on to a hiding to nothing replacing Thames though. RIP Carlton, you are not missed!

A great blast from the past. A music I remember waking upto to suddendly when I had nodded of from the end of a film. Didn't Sky seem far more grand in those days?

I really like Joan Rivers but looking through the clips on here she recycles her gags more than her face. The click jokes have done the rounds both in the US and UK. Still very funny though.
