They will face some relationship challenges, many of them work-oriented, in the second half of the season, reveals exec producer Shonda Rhimes.

The Queen of Shondaland, however, insists that this latest obstacle will not result in the newly married-via-Post-It pair breaking up — a rumor that has been making the rounds on the Internets (and stirring Der-Mer fans into a veritable frenzy). I dont know how many times [I] can say, Derek and Meredith are together forever and have anybody hear it, she sighs. I can only reassure so much.

In order to [produce] a drama you need to have some drama, Rhimes adds with a laugh. Whether or not two people are meant for one another doesnt mean that things arent going to happen to challenge their relationship.

But what about plans for the stork to pay a visit to Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital? Show creator Shonda Rhimes, who has concealed several of her actresses pregnancy bellies, tells me, We dont do babies on Greys. Aww. Does that really mean no McBaby for Mer and Derever? I assume Derek wants to be a dad at some point, says Rhimes, clarifying that Meredith, on the other hand, is probably not too into babies.

After butting heads with the chief, Derek contemplates his position at SGH and it begins to take a toll on his relationship with Mer. SR says she's committed to keeping the couple in a happy place but warns, "We're going to start to see a little bit of a rocky road for them due to the battle between Derek and the Chief".

Vernoff maintains that Derek (Patrick Dempsey) and Meredith will continue to be Seattle Grace's core duo. "We believe in the Post-it marriage. And we absolutely have more stories to tell for them."

What it's going to do for Derek is allow us to play stories about Derek that are not necessarily related to Meredith, which is not a thing that we've done a lot of in the past. We now get to explore Derek as a doctor and a potential administrator and a man with ambition.

Q:So no MD storyline in the next eps? Im disappointed. I wanted so bad to see them like a real married couple.

A:You will absolutely be seeing Meredith and Derek behaving like a real married couple throughout Season Six.

Q:Can you tell us what emotions us MerDer fans will be feeling in S6?

A:Yeah. Longing. Cause you guys are always longing for more. No matter how much Mer/Der we give you, you long for more. And we're going to give you lots of MerDer. Lots. And it's going to be so good it will just make you want more. Like donuts.

Q:Is good stuff coming for MD, too (not just 30 second filler scenes for the first half of the season)?

A:If by good stuff you mean juicy, happy, McWonderful, McGlorious scenes between Mer and Der, then the answer is, quite simply, yes.

Q:Will we see Mrs. Shepherd again in season six?

A:We love Tyne Daly! And we agree she was terrific as Dereks mom youll have to wait and see if she comes back to Seattle in the future!
