About this user
Seperate from Dr. Carmilla & the Mechanisms, MaKi Yamazaki's solo project, Dr. Carmilla is an exploration into some of the deeper themes and narratives of 'the Dr. Carmilla universe'. For example, 'Thick as Thieves' is a continuation of the 'Loreli' story and goes deeper into the relationship between Dr. Carmilla and said Loreli. Her solo work also sees a drastic change in instrumentation, with all songs written, arranged and recorded by MaKi, herself.
MaKi Yamazaki also currently plays electric guitar/bass and backing vocals with the Oxford-based band, Bring a Guillotine. Past bands include fronting The Mercury Dead Box and Murder of Crows. To add to her talents, she also works as an artist (creating many of the illustrations for her music) and as a live sound engineer for other acts, inculding the radical feminist burlesque collective, Lashings of Ginger Beer.
MaKi is a feminist and an advocate of queer and disabled peoples' rights. She was born with a connective tissue disorder called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and works to raise awareness of this rare and disabling condition.
