The Media Marten will accept used books, textbooks, DVDs, CDs, and video games 24 hours a day. It is designed using state of the art automation and wireless network technology to drive this unique innovation. In order to use it, a person simply places a media item under the barcode reader within the machine. The items ISBN bar code registers, or is entered manually. Then the machine searches its database and offers a fair market price for the item. The user is offered a choice to sell the item, or to simply donate it to a local cause. If the user accepts the sale price and terms, then deposits the item into the machine, an ACH credit to their bank account or pay-pal account is processed within minutes. There is even the option to receive a text message or email for immediate notification of the trasaction.
The next phase of the items life cycle is where its impact is truly felt. A parent who cannot afford a new movie, book, or game for their child, can purchase a previously owned copy instead for much less. A local grocer who hosts a Media Marten can benefit along with the parent who needs extra shopping money. Marten can even help a college student to buy books for much less money than in their corporate owned campus bookstore, or even online. A town with little infrastructure might be able to develop a foundation by placing machines in various parts of the local community, which benefit different community projects. Environmental benefits include less air pollution, (from shipping) less waste in landfills, and Media Martens are made from low environmental impact materials. They can even be powered by a solar panel. Media Marten draws its name and inspiration from a small North American woodland creature threatened by deforestation. The Marten is nocturnal like this technology.
