MEA President Steven Cook welcomes you back to school and highlights some exciting new programs through the MEA and the NEA.
New Leadership Program
Our members who are classroom teachers have expressed the importance of giving them a leadership role in improving teaching and learning. To meet that need, we have developed a teacher leadership program jointly with the National Education Association. In November, the MEA will begin our own classroom teacher leadership program. Completion of this training will enable teachers to apply for the Advanced Professional Certificate.
The MEA is also supporting teachers with Instructional Best Practices training, as well as assistance in implementing the Common Core State Standards. We have Master Teachers who are writing lesson plans for Better Lessons which can be found at our website: http://www.betterlessons.com
NEA Great Public Schools Program
The MEA has teachers who are serving as facilitators with the NEA Great Public Schools program. Take a look at the work they are doing at http://www.gpsnetwork.org
