I've skimmed this video many times, but only now actually watched closely at the two or three frames at the moment of takeaway. It appears the hands rotate the shaft clockwise. I would be careful to read too much into this. Hogan took the club back abruptly, as many greats did. I've seen video a...

Dan Whittaker does a thorough analysis of Ben Hogan's swing over the years

Mr. Whittaker, you draw your lines over the footage inaccurately, significantly reducing your credibility. You may have some important observations, but people will tend not to believe you when you draw your lines in such a way as to force the footage to agree with what you are saying.

The hips however, esp. right hip, stayed still and even moved to the left late in the backswing. What is important, IMHO, is ...

In an interview for "The Ben Hogan Collection" video, Jaime Vasquez, a caddy and friend of Hogan, said the Man once told him the secret was the action of the right knee. When Vasquez responded "but I thought the left wrist...", Hogan interrupted him and said, "Forget about the Goddamn left wrist,...

that rows (horizontal) of pixels are "exposed" (sampled maybe?) sequentially, from top to bottom, so that what is captured is actually later in time the lower you go in each frame. This is a neat way of taking a really high speed image without the blurring, because each line, and pixel, is expose...

...restrict one's hip turn on the way back makes it even harder. Notice, in this very video, how soon Hogan's hip turn right-ward on the take-away. The restriction was more salient to him because his contemporaries and predecessors (Jones) turned their hips a HUGE amount. Keeping the right foot/k...

@Crampyton1 pokmaster is right. The best thing you can get from youtube is footage of Ben Hogan. You have a fine swing in my opinion, judging from this one shot. And keep experimenting; it can be frustrating, but it's a good way to learn (Hogan did it that way -he never had a coach). I repeat: W...

There should be no tips on "how to get backspin". Every shot that is struck cleanly has backspin. Even a driver. Even a driver teed way up and struck on the upswing. If you are not getting backspin, you are practically missing the ball and you have way more fundamental problems to work out.

Respond to this video... this is perhaps a slightly more accurate thought-at address, place hands at *impact* height. (not impact position-that would be too far forward, toward the target). On the other hand, his setup was such that he doesn't appear at all to be reaching. Still maintains sol...

Very nice video Ms. Vallone. However, what you describe as the "waggle" is a training exercise Mr. Hogan suggested. The "waggle" is performed with the hands and forearms only, and is done at address immediately before the shot. A review of the book will confirm this. Very nice swing by the way. T...

"I have this dvd and Hogan is NOT 155 yds out. He is playing a 430 yd par 4 and the announcer says his drive was 255 yds. i.e. he is 175 yards away, and while the announcer says he has a "full four iron", look at his sw...
