About this user

I was elected as the MLA for Esquimalt-Metchosin on May 17, 2005, and re-elected to the reconfigured riding of Esquimalt-Royal Roads on May 12, 2009. I currently serve as opposition critic for Children, Family Development and Child Care.

Before my life as MLA I was a municipal councillor in Esquimalt in 1996, and re-elected in 1999 and again in 2002. I am proud of the work I did to save the Matson Lands Garry Oak meadow, the beautification and traffic calming along Esquimalt Road, create and eventually chair the CRD Arts Committee, renew bird habitat in Esquimalt and the creek daylighting project in Gorge Park.

As a long-standing Director of the Veins of Life Watershed Society, I have worked in support of environmental stewardship for the Gorge Waterway and watershed protection in the Capital Region.

I also have an extensive business background with 15 years in the fashion industry in retail, wholesale and import/export from South East Asia; and 10 years in publishing for the tourism market and international motorcycle industry including trade show and TV production.In the late 90's I served three years with the provincial government as Ministerial Assistant to two Cabinet Ministers.

I am a strong supporter and advocate for more environmentally responsible and sustainable governance and am personally committed to a greener lifestyle. My modes of transportation include an electric motorcycle and bio-diesel VW. I support local agro-business and organic farming.
