I had one of these tonight. I loved it in 2010 and again in 2011. It is a great sipper and should be shared with your best friends. I am a fan of Dirty Bastard (which is sometimes classified as a Scotch Ale) but the oak barrel aging adds so much complexity and a bit more gravity. Founders is ...

This is such a shoddy piece of work, I'm surprised. I heard it on the radio and it sounds like something thrown together after the artists were dead, some untalented cat piecing unfinished bits together. You buy an expensive canvas and quality oil-based pants, then you let your dog drop a deuce...

whisky review 160 - McAfee's Benchmark Bourbon

I have been pleased with this bargain bourbon as well. Hyvee (Illinois) has 1.75L for $19.99. It works neat and in coke zero, diet a&W, and lemonade. I wouldn't call it premium but in the ballpark of those that are $20 for a 750ml. It would be a good candidate for blind tasting. BTW, you're ...

Nice track - that vocal melody at 0:19 I've heard before - it's interpolated on a Frank Quintero (also Venezuelan) cut from the 70's. I wonder if it's original to this song or if it's a common Venezuelan bit. The time signature's different and it's on keyboards but it's definitely the same melo...

This was written by Mark James, who I think did the original the year before (1973). He's got a mix of country and soul.

Bergen White
I can't recommend this album highly enough for 60's pop fans. Not a bad track on it.
Forget about the cheesy cover and album title this is a classic.

I wholeheartedly agree - consistently excellent album. Check the Bread version of "Look At Me" on their first album, it actually tops the Bergen White version, "Gone Again" is also written by David Gates (of Bread). Because of those two songs, I've wondered if Gates had input on this record a...

Is the Glenn Yarbrough version the original (1965)? I believe Gates wrote it - he was an amazing writer/producer/arranger in the 60's. I personally prefer the 60's aesthetic. His music at that time is in the same ballpark as Phil Spector, Carole King, Jack Nitszche, and Burt Bacharach (all goo...

C'mon people. This arrangement is really sketchy. They should have eschewed the MJ classic and just applied the ideas to a new song that fit better. Vocally and musically, the group has a nice sound, I just find this very unappealing and unnecessary.

I don't know if it's too obvious, but note that Minnie sings on this version too. This is the earliest version that I know of, from about 1968. It's on Cadet (Chicago). Minnie was in Rotary Connection at the time, who were on the subsidiary Cadet Concept. Many records on these labels have tha...
Laughing at "written by Jessie McDaniel". This is a cover for the most part ("Give It Up" by Kool & the Gang). It's funky though and this appropriation wasn't that unusual at that time. The original is one K&G's meanest tracks so it's good someone covered it.
