MattiMedia is an examination of New Media and it's effect on Culture. The term "new media" is really relative to it's place in time....a Town Crier was new media to the colonies in the 1500s. Ben Franklin's newspaper was new media in the 1700's. The telegraph, radio, telephones and television were all new media in their time. Cell phones and the internet are new media of today. With websites like youtube, we suddenly all become broadcasters of information, news and events that can potentially span the world. Are the historical differences of "new media" and it's cultural effects nothing more than elements of time, quantity and power? How long it takes to reach the audience, how many people over how large an area it actually reaches, and who originates and distributes the information? At MattiMedia you will experience a series of 5 videos depicting a single reoccurring event that addresses this issue.
