Matthew Coley is a marimba, percussion, and dulcimer artist specializing in contemporary solo and chamber music and dance collaboration.

He is currently professor of percussion at Iowa State University and holds degrees from Northwestern University and the University of North Texas. Matthew has also worked as a modern dancer, choreographer, composer, and director.

Matthew performs regularly as a soloist throughout the US and Europe including performances with the San Francisco Sinfonietta, Kurpfalzisches Kammerorchester Mannheim, Millennium Chamber Players, Moldavian Philharmonic and Tele-Radio Orchestras, and Third Coast Percussion. His 2009 premiere performances of concerti by Marcin Błażewicz and Ghenadie Ciobanu garnered him a feature article in Time Out Chicago Magazine. He has traveled twice to Chisinau, Moldova to present masterclasses and to premiere concerti. He has been featured on Chicago's WFMT classical radio station twice.

Matthew is a sought-after collaborator in the dance, new music, and electronic scenes and is the founding artistic director of the multi-media performance group SONIC INERTIA. As a modern dancer he has performed with The Seldoms, Thodos Dance Chicago, Inaside Dance Chicago, and several other Chicago independent projects. He is currently collaborating with Co'Motion Dance Theatre on an upcoming project all about glass, and his dissertation for a Doctor of Music degree from Northwestern University will be focused on the process and synergy of dance and live music collaboration.
