I'm an 18 year old male from Massachusetts and an aspiring singer / songwriter who is beginning to learn to produce his own music.I began writing music - I wrote prose and poetry before that - around sophomore year in high school, when my oldest brother ran into some really unfortunate troubles. Being that he is my brother and I love him dearly independent of our biological connection, I shared his pain and had no other way of getting it out.
I started playing piano just before that, and other than lessons I took when I was very young, I have never received formal lessons. I started singing from about the moment I was physically able to. I don't pretend to be a great pianist or a great vocalist, and I am sure that I am aware of any flaws which you may feel the need to point out, so rest assured, your job is already done.
Music, close friends, passion and the aesthetics of nature are the four things that I feel make life worth living. "Passion" is sort of a cop-out since it can take form in innumerable ways, but I figured I'd use it to keep my list of reasons to live short and sweet.
I love taking long walks (on the beach, yes, but also in the woods and on the streets at night) and talking to people about almost anything. I believe that everyone has something valuable to offer everyone else, even if it comes in an unexpected or even entirely undesirable way.
I like all sorts of music, including acoustic, progressive rock, folk, metal, country, rock, pop, techno, dubstep, classical, ska and more.
Elitism in music (although also everywhere else) is a pet peeve of mine, IE "Justin Bieber's music is complete shit. Mudvayne forever!" No, I don't listen to Justin Bieber, but I don't think he deserves any shit for performing his own style just because some people don't like it. Musicians and those who listen to them should share a mutual respect and steer clear of confrontation. No musician wants his or her fans to start a war. If I ever have any, I wouldn't want mine to.
Anyway, I recently graduated from high school, and my graduation present was an M-Audio MBox Mini with ProTools 8 LE, a Sterling Audio ST51 Microphone, and a boom for my micstand. Together with my Yamaha P-85 and M-Audio Uno Midi Adapter, this collection of items forms my home studio. I'm not much for technology, but ProTools is pretty easy to use and I'm looking forward to figuring out more about it.
Well! This has been a fun rant to write, but I think I'll end it here by saying that as soon as I figure out how to export my ProTools sessions as Mp3s, I'll be putting my stuff up on YouTube as I record it.
Hello, we are Simon & Garfunkel. We are 70 years old, and we are just as fucking phenomenal as when we were young, if not better.
