Hey, I'm Mark James -- a fairly normal-ish 24 year old New Zealand singer songwriter who makes rad as guitar-based easy grooves. Two parts pop, one part blues/funk, one part emotion and about 6 parts fun.
After coming to terms with the cold hard truth that I am geek, I decided to get a real job and become a musician. In mid 2009 I put my studies on hold to write, teach and play music full time. At the time I had been playing guitar for around 10 years which was a good start and all I had to do was learn was how to do everything else. I started off playing and singing covers in local bars around Auckland -- Francoli, The Post House, The Cloak Room, The Bog to name a few - dropping in the occasional original song, having fun, enjoying the lifestyle and the odd beer or whiskey.
In 2010 I found my stride with songwriting, and after writing many, I picked out a handful to make an EP which was recorded by David Edtmaier at M.R. recording studios. Now I am continuing my quest in following my dream of writing, recording and playing music to and for the masses to put a smile on a strangers face and joy into a listening ear.
