About this user

Marco G. Ferrari (b. 1974) is a video artist based in Chicago. He studied music and film at Ithaca College (New York), subsequently earning his BA in Communication and Italian at DePaul University (Chicago). Ferrari uses film--video as a vehicle to research and express personal and social commentaries. Based in documentary, experimental, and fictional genres, his video essays may then branch out to related mediums such as single--multiple channel video art for live multimedia performances and installations, or mixed media objects.

Screenings of his films have been exhibited in the Italian Pavilion at the 54th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale; Galleria d'Arte Moderna--Palazzo Forti (Verona, Italy); Grafiche Aurora (Verona, Italy); and the Chicago Cultural Center. He has performed live video projections at numerous venues including The Museum of Contemporary Art--Chicago, Ravinia Festival (Highland Park, Illinois), and the Chicago Symphony Center. Ferrari's projects have received funding from Ministero degli Affari Esteri (Italy); Community Film Workshop of Chicago; The National Italian American Foundation; and The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs.

In the fall of 2011 Ferrari began a two-year MFA candidacy in the Department of Visual Arts, University of Chicago. He is currently working on a series of video essays inspired by his recent travels to China and has also begun collaborating with Clinard Dance Theater in creating live video projections for upcoming performances. Ferrari tours regularly with the band Poi Dog Pondering and manages Ferrari Studios, a collaborative gallery/studio space shared between himself and his father, sculptor Virginio Ferrari.

This summer (2012) he is looking forward to finishing a solo record music project, teaching a summer video essay course at Franklin College Switzerland and beginning a film project in Guardistallo Italy.
