My training is in physics, but my professional life has been spent in software development. I now fancy myself a writer, but it remains to be seen whether that is more than just a hope.

My first passion was, and still is, science. I am currently the primary organizer of the Atlanta Science Tavern which uses a site on Meetup.com to organize a variety of events for our members who, although not necessarily scientists, are all science enthusiasts. As of early 2011 we are more than 1,000 strong and growing every day!

Politically, I would be considered mildly left-leaning by European standards, making me a radical leftist by American ones :) I have been active in the cause of human rights since the early 1980s, working with local Amnesty International groups and the American Friends Service Committee, a Quaker-based organization, and their Middle East Peace Education Program. I am a long-time supporter of Atlanta's Feminist Women's Health Center and their commitment to make sure that women here have access to a wide range of reproductive health services.

I am an avid bicyclist, and cycling is my primary form of transportation. In recent years much of my advocacy work has had to do with making my city more bicycle-friendly. I am also pleased to say that I am a volunteer with a local organization, PEDS, which works to improve conditions for pedestrians in the Atlanta area.
