ANTHONY SMITH is a musician currently residing in Richmond, Virginia.
Recently, he was a named Finalist in the National Symphony Orchestra's "Young Soloist Competition" for his performance of Lowell Liebermann's "Concerto for Piccolo and
Orchestra". During his tenure at Virginia Commonwealth University as a flute performance major, Anthony held the principal flute and piccolo positions in all ensembles and competed
extensively in regional and national competitions. Mr. Smith has presented many recitals in the Richmond area, with a focus on the contemporary solo repertoire. He has also participated in master classes across the nation with such artists as Ransom Wilson, Marianne Gedigian, and Michael Parloff.
In addition to his work as a flutist, Anthony is currently the Director of Percussion/Lead
Arranger at James River High School, a position he has held for the past five years. During his time at James River, the select percussion ensemble Rapid Fire has been awarded Grand Champion in its caption multiple times under the auspices of the Atlantic Indoor Association. Mr. Smith's private percussion students continue to be very successful in All-District, All-State, and collegiate auditions.
Anthony is also very active in the Richmond vocal community, and has served as Bass-Baritone Soloist at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart for the past 7 years. He has also been
a member of the James River Singers, the Centenary Festival Chorus and has performed with many churches in the area as a choral section leader and soloist.
Since 2003, Mr. Smith has also been a leading figure in the show choir arranging and
consulting scene across the country, and choirs using his arrangements have consistently won many awards in their chosen competition circuits.
Most recently, Anthony has begun performing as a collaborative pianist and keyboardist, and has accompanied ensembles from the elementary to collegiate levels, as well as performing in local musicals at the Barksdale Theatre and many other venues.
