Spitballs was a 1978 recording studio session comprised of bands from the roster of Matthew King Kaufman's Beserkeley Records. The group included included members of The Greg Kihn Band, Earth Quake, Jonathon Richman, and The Rubinoos. Recorded at the old CBS studios in San Francisco .
This version of "Gino Is a Coward" is a cover version of George "Gino" Washington's original version.
George "Gino" Washington is an R&B and rock singer from Detroit, Michigan. While he was attending Pershing High School, he achieved local hits in 1963 and 1964 with "Out of This World" and "Gino Is a Coward". He was the first artist signed to Ric-Tic Records. In 1964 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Japan and South Vietnam; upon return his music career stalled. He hosted his own variety television show in Detroit during the 1970s.
Beserkley Records was an American independent record label based in Berkeley, California, from 1973 to 1984. Beserkley is usually regarded as a powerpop and rock and roll label. During the 1970s, the label released albums by Earth Quake, Greg Kihn, Jonathan Richman and The Modern Lovers, The Rubinoos, and The Tyla Gang. Several other artists appeared on singles, or on compilation albums.
From 1980 to the label's dissolution in 1984, Berserkley was a one-artist label, the artist being Greg Kihn.
