KOKODA by Peter FitzSimons - former Wallaby under 1984 Grand Slam winning coach Alan Jones - tells the incredible story of how an under-strength band of Australian soldiers managed to thwart the advance of crack Japanese troops in the high New Guinea jungle as they attempted to advance on Port Moresby, from where they planned to stage an invasion of the Australian mainland. FitzSimons brilliantly tells the story of The Kokoda Track, the 'symbol' of WW2 for Australians. He is also the author of NANCY WAKE among several other excellent biographies, including that of former ALP leader Kim Christian Beazley, and 1999 Rugby World Cup Wallaby winning captain John Eales. Fitz's spouse Lisa Wilkinson is co-host with Karl Stefanovic of the top-rating morning program Today for the Nine Network, Australia.

hugs reciprocated, friend! for a great great 2012!! hope the ushering in was nice & easy - with rolling stones providing background to the chilled beer... i had one far from the madding crowd - in a place called 'bandarban' literally meaning 'monkey forest'! but no monkeying, i can assure you....just clean air, lots of birdsong .. and some hilly terrain on the border of bangladesh with india...so u c - i'm carrying on ...rolling stones gather no moss :)))

sorry, the 'ezra cup' has nothing to do with ezra pound :)) it's another grand old jew or armenian gentleman of old calcutta who started it - the first Polo Cup i'm told, in the world! armeninans were very prosperous in british calcutta but they did give back a lot - charity & entertainment-wise.
