hey man, that 17 grains is the European recommendation from Pietta. You can absolutely load 25-30 grains in your steel frame revolver, most people do and have for centuries. If you enjoy it at 17 grains, just wait till you get the 3o grain experiance brother:)

I have served in the US Army since 1998. I enlisted when i was 17 years old and went to FT Jackson, SC for my BCT and FT Lee, VA for AIT. I recieved my commission in May of 2003, and was recently promoted to the rank of Captain. I have served two tours in Iraq, and one in Afghanistan. I have a 5 year old son who is my world. I am also a tactical firearms and self defense instructor. I love any conversation that involves weapons, especially the 1911 .45.
