Hōkūle‘a PVS

Growing Wiliwili on Moloka'i Play

Under the guidance of Bill Garnett, students plant native dryland trees like wiliwili and ma'o in what may become a "wiliwili surfboard forest" at Mo'omomi, on the island of Moloka'i. They also express why they feel it's important to save the wiliwili dryland forest and why they love living on this small island.

Nainoa Thompson Shares Inspiration Play

We have been blessed to know and be inspired by many incredible people. At the Hawai'i Executive Conference, Nainoa Thompson shares a little about one of the men who inspired the Hōkūle'a Worldwide Voyage. We carry not only the spirit of this adventurer with us, but we carry his kuleana (responsibility) to mālama (care for) our island home, Earth.

The Hōkūle'a just completed a sail to Palmyra Atoll, 1,000 miles south of Hawai'i, as training for the Hōkūle'a Wolrdwide Voyage in which the traditional Hawaiian canoe will circumnavigate the Earth using ancient Polynesian navigation techniques. The crew carry with them the idea that we are all crew members on Canoe Earth and, just as on Hōkūle'a, we need to care for one another an our resources.
